€1 million donation to help restore nature after wildfires in Patras – Achaia, Greece

A €1 million donation from The Coca-Cola HBC Foundation is helping to restore and regenerate the ecosystem in the fire-affected region of Patras – Achaia, Greece. This support was announced in August 2025.

In October, Coca-Cola HBC Greece (known locally as Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon) officially assumed the restoration and regeneration during a meeting attended by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr Stavros Papastavrou, the Secretary General of Forests, Mr Stathis Stathopoulos, the Regional Governor of Western Greece, Mr Nektarios Farmakis, and representatives of local authorities.

The funding will cover essential anti-erosion and anti-flooding projects, helping nature recover and empowering local communities to build resilience for the future. These interventions will:

  • retain sediment, stabilise slopes and safeguard residential zones, farmland, and critical infrastructure from flood risks, and

  • help mitigate soil erosion and promote the natural regeneration of the local ecosystem.

Targeted support for vulnerable groups

The Coca-Cola Foundation has also awarded $250,000 to the Bodossaki Foundation in support of a relief programme for the fire-affected communities in the Municipalities of Patras and Western Achaia.

The programme, implemented by Doctors of the World, will deploy mobile units to provide targeted support with a priority on vulnerable groups. Relief efforts will address immediate needs by delivering personal goods, including personal hygiene items, medical supplies, food, and household essentials, as well as offering individualised psychological and social support.

The Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr Stavros Papastavrou said:

"The immediate restoration of areas affected by wildfires is a key priority for the government. We have acted swiftly in Feneos, Corinthia, in Chios wildfires in July, and now in Achaia, as well as in other affected regions such as Kythera. Following the major wildfire on August 12, restoration studies were completed in record time to prepare for the winter. Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon has taken on the flood protection and erosion control works as a private sponsor, and I would like to thank them on behalf of the Ministry.”
