Consumer health

We are responding to consumer requirements for a greater choice of beverages,  such as those offering lower calorie options, added health benefits and different serving sizes. We are also providing more information on the content of our beverages.

A wide choice of beverages

We now offer a wide range of waters, juices and functional beverages with health claims.

These and other still beverages account for a growing proportion of our sales. Of these, low- or no-calorie sparkling
beverages represent a 6 per cent of total volume sales.

As a result, the average calorie content of our beverages continues to fall and is now 19 per cent lower than in 2001.

Responsible marketing

As obesity is a growing global health issue we want to ensure that we do what we can to address it in a constructive way.

We support multi-stakeholder initiatives that address the issue. The most significant of these is the European Union (EU) Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health , which comprises associations, consumer groups, health non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and political leaders.

To support this initiative, we established commitments from the food and drink industry through both the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the EU (CIAA) and the Union of European Beverages Association (UNESDA) .

Front of pack labels

Product label provides information on GDAs

We introduced new front-of-pack labels in our EU member states in 2007 to help consumers understand the calorific content of beverages.

Guideline daily amount (GDA) labels provide at-a-glance information on the calories in a beverage, along with the sugar, fat, saturated fat and salt content.

Healthy, active lifestyles

The most effective way to manage body weight and prevent obesity is to balance the amount of energy (calories) consumed with the amount expended through physical activity.

We work with government agencies, sports and nutrition experts and industry peers to support physical activity and nutrition education programmes .
