Community

We are an active member of the community in each of the 28 countries in which we operate.

Our Community

We are committed to investing our time, expertise and resources to protect, support and enhance the quality of life through a wide range of locally relevant initiatives.

In addition to the economic benefits its day-to-day business activities bring, Coca-Cola Hellenic supports local communities through community investment programmes.

Key social or environmental needs are identified through consultation, and the company partners with government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other experts to conduct programmes.

Through two-way dialogue with stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and numerous groups and organisations, we strive to not only respond to requests for assistance but also take an active role in identifying needs, extending support and developing meaningful partnerships.

Our primary focus is on programmes that are associated with our areas of expertise and through which we can make the greatest contribution.

Creating economic value

Through its day-to-day business, Coca-Cola Hellenic creates economic value by employing more than 42,052 people and supporting up to 10 times that number of jobs among suppliers and customers. This is called the multiplier effect, where we not only positively affect those directly employed by our business but also support and expand businesses that do business with us.

As a major investor in countries and communities where we operate, we help to introduce new knowledge and technology, attract other potential investors and support community investment programmes.

In 2010, we paid:

  • €136.9 million in income taxes*
  • €1,163 million in salaries and benefits
  • € 4,029.5 million to suppliers of ingredients, packaging and services

Coca-Cola Hellenic develops community involvement programmes in partnership with community leaders, government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).  Most of our community programme funding is channelled into three strategic areas: water and environmental protection, youth development and sports and physical activity. These causes are the most relevant to Coca-Cola Hellenic's business and are areas in which the company has core competencies and expertise to offer. In addition, the company provides emergency relief during disasters.

Community investment

In 2007, we joined the London Benchmarking Group (LBG) and adopted its respected model to better measure our community involvement.

The model provides a comprehensive and consistent set of measures to calculate contributions. Using this model, we contributed €9.5 million in 2010, representing 1.4 per cent of pre-tax profit.
