Coca-Cola Hellenic strives to operate with a consistent set of values that represent the highest standards of integrity and excellence, including working with local communities in protecting, preserving and enhancing the environment.
» Since 1998, Coca-Cola Hellenic's operations in the Republic of Ireland have been working in partnership with the environmental group An Taisce and the Department of the Environment, to encourage people to take personal responsibility for litter and keep their local communities clean. In 2006, more than 280,000 people participated in the National Spring Clean initiative in some 3,000 events, collecting over 700 tons of litter.
» Coca-Cola Hellenic Greece joined with the World Wildlife Fund Hellas in 2003 to conduct volunteer activities involving young volunteers visiting eight areas around the country, helping to preserve their natural beauty.
» In Hungary, together with a national recycling organization, OEKO Pannon, the group's business unit has developed a special roadshow that demonstrates to visitors, in an entertaining way, the importance of selective waste collection, and how to select and sort different materials.
» Coca-Cola HBC Italy worked together with local authorities to develop a program that aimed to go beyond simply teaching students in 1,200 schools about the importance of environmental protection, by actively engaging students in creating substantive ways of achieving positive results. Schools judged to have initiated the most effective environmentally-related projects were presented with computers and financial support.
» To strengthen environmental awareness and the important connection between nature and human life--while educating the wider public--Coca Cola HBC Austria has developed a "Junior Ranger Camp" program in conjunction with Austria's National Park Board. Each year, a group of young people begin learning about the environment at the Austrian National Park aw Hollersbach with workshops and theoretical training.
They then gain more practical experience, including "survival skills," at Carinthia, Salzburg and East Tyrol. Upon graduation, the "students" pass on their knowledge and understanding to thousands of others across the country.
» Since 1994, Coca-Cola HBC Nigeria has been the sole sponsor of a national school contest where children write essays, or produce works of art that focus on the importance and protection of the environment. In cooperation with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation and State Ministries of Education and a number of prominent non-governmental organizations, the company chooses an annual theme. After initial vetting by individual school authorities, the almost impossible task of selecting just five finalists from each contest category from the thousands of submitted entries begins. The eventual winners are rewarded with a week-long, all-expense-paid holiday to a Nigerian National Park or Game Reserve--an experience that the contest finalists are keen to share with their fellow students upon their return, further extending appreciation of Nigeria's unique natural assets.
